About the Master's Academy of Fine Arts |
|
The Master's Academy program is divided into two full fine arts schools designed specifically for home schooled children ages K-5th grade and students in 6th - 12th grade. Meeting just one day per week, children are exposed to the arts from an historical perspective. Each year the arts are taught from a specific time period beginning with Ancient Civilizations, then moving on to the Medieval/ Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods through a six year cycle. Each year is self-contained so a student need not be involved for the full six years, nor do they need to begin at the Ancient Civilizations period to gain a benefit from the program. Throughout the year, students concentrate on building foundational principles in our four core classes which include: - History - A combination of arts history and world history so that the students understand where "all the pieces fit."
- Art - Learning of basic art skills and terminology as well as learning about the artists, and mediums used during a specific time period.
- Music - Exposure to the basic elements of music reading, rhythm and notation, as well as learning about the composers, and styles of music from each period and learning to make music.
- Drama - This is exposure to the basics of stage terminology as well as theater games, and literature of the period done in a group setting to learn basic drama skills.
In addition students will pursue electives in areas which they have found to be interesting to them in order to gain more exposure and skill in those areas. These options vary from location to location and by time period. The costs vary slightly at each location, with an average price of $7.00 per class hour, and an annual registration fee per student. Discounts, additional fees, and payment schedules are at the discretion of each location. Days and times also vary by location. For more information on exact pricing, locations, and meeting times, please call the director of the school nearest you, or call the Master's Academy corporate office at 770-286-0782 or by E-mail at

The Ancient Time Period (Creation - 400 A.D.)
Year one of the cycle begins with creation and goes to the Fall of Rome. In this cycle, children are exposed to the arts from a Biblical foundation with the arts of all the ancient civilizations being studied from God’s perspective rather than through the eyes of our current culture which tends to praise the worship of false gods through the arts. Our spiritual target in this time period is the building of a foundation, for if we do not understand both God’s foundational truths for the arts, as well as the foundational principles for creating the arts, we are doomed to create more of the mindless drivel which consumes our society today. |

The Importance of Arts Education |
(Even if your kids aren't “Artsy”) I can imagine what you are thinking after reading the title of this article…. “Oh great, another guilt trip article from a homeschool leader on what I’m leaving out of my children’s education and how it will negatively impact my family for the next five generations. I can hardly wait to read this one! Who really cares about the arts anyway? We have science, math, history, English, foreign language, Bible study, sports, chores, character studies, community service, missions trips, church functions, political campaigns, and growing our garden to worry about, who has time for the arts? They just aren’t that important, and if we leave them out no one is going to notice. All of that stuff is just a distraction to real learning anyway and we’ve got to be serious here. After all, I’m trying to get my child into a good college and I just can’t spare the time from serious academic pursuits for something as non-essential as the arts.” Well, I’m not here to guilt you into yet another activity, but I am here to challenge your thinking on the importance of arts education and possibly to shake up your educational paradigm a little bit. |
